At Clixkrexae, sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's woven into every aspect of our business. We believe that beautiful floristry and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
We partner with local growers and fair-trade international farms that prioritize sustainable agricultural practices, biodiversity, and worker welfare.
From composting organic materials to repurposing containers, we strive to minimize waste at every stage of our operation and work toward a circular economy model.
We emphasize seasonal blooms, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation and artificial growing conditions required for out-of-season flowers.
Our packaging is plastic-free, using biodegradable, recycled, or reusable materials. We've eliminated single-use plastics from our supply chain entirely.
From seed to vase, we carefully manage each step in our floral journey to minimize environmental impact while maximizing beauty and longevity.
We prioritize flowers from local farms within 100km of Montreal whenever possible, reducing transportation emissions and supporting local agriculture. When sourcing internationally, we work only with certified sustainable farms that use responsible growing practices and ensure fair labor conditions.
We've eliminated floral foam (a non-biodegradable microplastic) from all our designs, instead using traditional techniques and sustainable mechanics like chicken wire, reusable frogs, and natural twine. Our vases and containers are either biodegradable, locally crafted, or sourced secondhand to reduce waste.
Our shop operates on a careful ordering system to minimize excess, and we compost all organic waste. Leftover blooms are repurposed into mini bouquets for local nursing homes and hospitals, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Our water is collected, filtered, and reused for plant irrigation.
Our local deliveries are made using electric vehicles or bicycle couriers for minimal carbon emissions. For packaging, we use biodegradable wraps, recycled paper, and natural twine. We offer a container return program where customers can return vases for a discount on their next purchase.
We believe in transparency and education, sharing information about our sustainable practices with customers and providing care tips to extend the life of arrangements. We actively advocate for more sustainable practices within the floral industry through workshops and community engagement.
Sustainable floristry extends beyond our shop to your home. Follow these eco-friendly tips to maximize the beauty and longevity of your arrangements while minimizing environmental impact.
Change the water every 2-3 days and trim stems at a 45-degree angle each time. Use room temperature water to prevent shock to the flowers, and collect the old water for household plants.
Keep arrangements away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and ripening fruit (which releases ethylene gas that speeds up flower deterioration). This simple positioning can add days to your arrangement's life.
As some blooms fade, remove them and rearrange the remaining flowers into smaller vessels. Single stems in bud vases can extend enjoyment for several additional days.
When flowers have completed their lifecycle, compost them rather than sending to landfill. Dried flowers can also be used for craft projects, potpourri, or natural dyes.
Since implementing our sustainability initiatives in 2019, we've made measurable progress in reducing our environmental footprint.
We believe that collective action creates meaningful change. Participate in our community initiatives to learn about sustainable floristry practices and environmental stewardship.
Monthly workshops, community garden volunteering, and floral design classes using sustainable techniques are just a few ways to get involved. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed about upcoming events.
